Chelsea’s new signing Raul Meireles has stated that money was not a factor in his last-minute move from Liverpool to Chelsea. The Portuguese midfielder was forced to defend his position after receiving criticism from some Liverpool fans. He stated, ‘People think I am a Judas and that it was because of the money. It was not because of that’.
Meireles had only been at Liverpool for one season and it was reported he was unhappy at not starting their first two league games having been arguably their best player in the last campaign. The playmaker won four Portuguese titles with Porto and is therefore extremely familiar with Chelsea’s new head coach Andre Villas-Boas. He injured his collarbone in his final appearance for Liverpool however and will sit the next four to five weeks out.
